The Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) is a vital member of SFMOMA's senior leadership team and plays a significant role in the museum. The CMO is responsible for attracting over 1 million visitors annually, and generating outreach programs to support earned and philanthropic revenues, which make up two thirds of the museum's $65 million annual operating budget.  The CMO produces consistent on-brand outreach and experiences across earned, owned, purchased and partnership channels.

Reporting to the Deputy Museum Director, External Relations, the CMO and works collaboratively with the Museum Director and the Executive Team to advance the audience and income goals of the institution and in fulfilling the museum's 5-year strategic plan. This role is the lead liaison with the Marketing + Communications Committee of the Board of Trustees and partners extensively with other departments across the museum.

The CMO plays an instrumental role in the expression of the museum, its identity and strategy. This role leads the development and implementation of integrated strategies, plans and campaigns for the museum's marketing, advertising, public relations, promotions, social media and email activities.  The CMO ensures that the institutional vision and values are successfully expressed and extended through each of these initiatives.
